A Guide on Generative AI and Copyright Released in English

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) has released “Generative AI Copyright Guide,” in English, which the Korean version was initially released on December last year. In a hyperconnected society where works are utilized without borders, the MCST created this English guide in response to the frequent use of K-content for AI training abroad and Korean culture (Hallyu) fans’ creation of content similar to K-content using generative AI. This initiative aims to clarify legal uncertainties related to such usage and to proactively address copyright issues associated with AI. In October 2022, MCST had created and released the “Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) and Copyright Guide” in English to swiftly address global copyright issues.

Korean Crafts Reborn as Contemplative Existence in Italy

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) together with the Korea Craft & Design Foundation (Director JANG Dong Kwang, KCDF) will host the “Korean Craft Show in Milan 2024” in Italy during Milan Design Week from April 15 (Mon) to 21 (Sun) under the theme “Thoughts on Thickness.” First Vice Minister of the MCST JEON Byeong Geuk will visit the Korean Craft Show in Milan to listen to opinions on the overseas market entry of Korean crafts and seek concrete support measures.

Celebrating Library Day, “Discover Your Tomorrow at Libraries”

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) in collaboration with the Committee on Library and Information Policy (Chairman YOON Hee Yoon) will hold the “2024 Library Day and Library Week” from April 11 (Thur) to April 18 (Fri) at libraries nationwide, including the National Library of Korea. Minister YU In Chon will attend the commemoration at the International Conference Hall of the National Library of Korea on April 12 (Fri) to celebrate Library Day and Library Week, offering encouragement to officials in attendance.

Sports Industry: Korea’s New Growth Engine

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) announced the 4th Mid- to Long-Term Sports Industry Promotion Plan (2024–2028) on April 9 (Tue). As mandated by Article 5 of the Sports Industry Promotion Act, this plan outlines the vision and direction for sports industry policies over the next five years, developed after consulting with over 40 experts from academia and industry based on foundational research conducted in 2023.
