Webtoon Industry Revenue in 2022 Reaches KRW 1.829 Trillion, Setting New Record

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) announced the results of the “2023 Webtoon Survey (Businesses and Authors)” in collaboration with the Korea Creative Content Agency (President JO Hyun Rae, KOCCA). In 2022, the webtoon industry achieved KRW 1.829 trillion in sales, the largest ever, marking continuous growth over the five years since the first survey in 2018. This performance underscored Korea’s webtoon industry’s potential as a global leader.

“Gangwon 2024”: A Global Youth Sports Festival illuminates the night sky in Gangneung and Pyeongchang

The opening ceremony of the “Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024” (Gangwon 2024) will illuminate the night sky simultaneously at the Gangneung Oval and the Pyeongchang Dome in Gangwon State at 8:00 p.m. on January 19 (Fri). Approximately 9,000 spectators in Gangneung and 4,000 in Pyeongchang will join the event. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) Minister YU In Chon and Second Vice Minister JANG Mi Ran will attend the ceremony in Gangneung, while First Vice Minister JEON Byung Geuk will be in Pyeongchang to support young athletes from around the globe.

On January 12 (Fri) and January 13 (Sat), Minister YU of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (“MCST”) inspected the stadiums and athletes’ village in Hoengseong, Pyeongchang, and Jeongseon. These locations are slated to host the “2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games” (“Gangwon 2024”). The purpose of the visit was to oversee the final preparations for the upcoming preparation.
