The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) announced the “Global Public Relations Plan for the Era of Digital Transformation (2024–2027)” at a Cabinet meeting on May 28 (Tue). After establishing the International Cultural Affairs and Public Relations Office on February 6 to strengthen international cultural exchanges and promote Korean culture abroad, the MCST has held more than 30 meetings with industry and academic experts in the fields of global media cooperation, analysis and public relations (PR) content production to gather their opinions and prepare the plan.

Connecting the World and the Field with a New International Cultural Promotion Policy

On May 23 (Thur), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) announced the International Cultural Policy Promotion Strategy to spur Korea’s growth as an global cultural hub. With the worldwide popularity of Korean culture, the number of students at King Sejong Institutes has approximately doubled in the last five years , and the global interest in Korean culture has grown to the extent that K-wave was singled out as the number one reason for considering a trip to Korea . As this positive outlook for entering into the global stage is growing in Korean culture and art and industry, the demand of efficient and systematic policies is also increasing

MCST to Promote the Priority Purchase Program for Artists with Disabilities through the “Art Market for Artists with Disabilities”

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) and the Korea Disability Arts & Culture Center (Chairperson KIM Hyeong Hee, KDAC) opened an “art market” event dedicated to artworks created by artists with disabilities for one week from May 23 (Thur) to 30 (Thur) at Gallery 4 of the Hangaram Art Museum at the Seoul Arts Center. Entitled “A Very Special Exhibition of Gifts from Disabled Artists,” the art market is aimed at promoting the ministry’s priority purchase program for creative works by artists with disabilities. Minister YU plans to attend the opening ceremony on May 24 to encourage artists with disabilities and help them sell their works.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the “National Museum of Korean Literature,” a Long-Awaited Project for the Korean Literary Community

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) and the National Museum of Korean Literature (Director MOON Chung Hee, NMKL) held a groundbreaking ceremony in Jingwan-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, on May 20 (Mon). Minister YU attended the ceremony with leaders of Korean literature organizations, literary materials donors, and local residents to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new museum. After the ceremony, Minister YU sat down with key figures of the literary community at the Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum to discuss ways to promote translation and support the development of Korean literature.

Government and Public Organizations Join Forces to Prepare for Paris Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) is launching a joint preparation group (“Preparation Group”) to support Korean athletes and citizens for safe participation in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games (“Paris 2024 Olympics”). The Preparation Group, spearheaded by the MCST, includes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the Ministry of Unification, Korea Sport & Olympic Council, Korea Paralympic Committee, Korea Tourism Organization, and Korea Creative Content Agency. The first meeting of the Preparation Group was held on May 20 (Mon), chaired by Second Vice Minister JANG Mi Ran.
