Celebrating Library Day, “Discover Your Tomorrow at Libraries”

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) in collaboration with the Committee on Library and Information Policy (Chairman YOON Hee Yoon) will hold the “2024 Library Day and Library Week” from April 11 (Thur) to April 18 (Fri) at libraries nationwide, including the National Library of Korea. Minister YU In Chon will attend the commemoration at the International Conference Hall of the National Library of Korea on April 12 (Fri) to celebrate Library Day and Library Week, offering encouragement to officials in attendance.

Sports Industry: Korea’s New Growth Engine

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) announced the 4th Mid- to Long-Term Sports Industry Promotion Plan (2024–2028) on April 9 (Tue). As mandated by Article 5 of the Sports Industry Promotion Act, this plan outlines the vision and direction for sports industry policies over the next five years, developed after consulting with over 40 experts from academia and industry based on foundational research conducted in 2023.

K-Books: Stories from Korean Shared Worldwide

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) organizes various Korean literature events throughout the year in Korean Cultural Centers (KCCs) worldwide to support the overseas expansion of Korean books(K-books). Last month, notable achievements elevated the prestige of K-books, including the poetry collection Phantom Pain Wings by KIM Hye Soon, the first Korean 2023 National Book Critics Circle Awardee, along with children’s author LEE Geum Yi being shortlisted for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. According to the 2024 Overseas Hallyu Survey, a survey on the perception of Korean Wave abroad, the favorability toward Korean publications increased from 64.6% in 2018 to 70.3% in 2023. In response to this growing interest, MCST is hosting various cultural events with KCCs while strengthening cooperation with domestic and international cultural institutions to promote K-books overseas.

Korean Children’s Books Capture Global Readers at the 61st Bologna Children’s Book Fair

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST) will participate in the 61st Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy from April 8 (Mon) to April 11 (Thur) together with the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea (President KIM Jun Hee, KPIPA) to showcase the charm of Korean authors and children’s literature to the world.
