Visit Gangwon Province to Show Your Support for the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games and Enjoy Korea’s Winter Wonderland!

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon) organized the 2023 Winter Korea Festival Day celebration in collaboration with Korea Tourism Organization (President KIM Jang-sil) and the Gnagwon provincial government (Governor KIM Jin-tae) at Yongpyong Resort outdoor stage on January 19 (5PM). During the celebration, the mascot and theme song of Gangwon 2024 were revealed. A prize contest targeting students and young adults (aged 14-24) was held to collect ideas for the mascot and theme song. The screened ideas were modified and supplemented jointly by experts in the field, the Organising Committee for the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and contest winners.

Budget for K-content Finalized at KRW 844.2 Billion for 2023

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) has announced that a total budget of KRW 844.2 billion, or 12.5% of the Ministry’s total budget of KRW 6.7408 trillion for 2023, has been assigned to creating and promoting K-content for the year to launch Korea into becoming a first-rate culture enjoyed by the public and appreciated by the rest of the world. The MCST intends to create an environment where creative ideas become global intellectual property, and provide all-out support for strategic expansion of K-content export as well as expansion of manufacturing and service industry exports.

Shopping and Tourism Festival with K-Culture marking the Year of Visit Korea

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) together with the Visit Korea Committee holds the 2023 Korea Grand Sale from January 12 (Thur) to February 28 (Tue). The Korea Grand Sale was held in 2011 for the first time with voluntary participation of various private companies in the fields of travel, accommodation, shopping, and entertainment to promote foreign tourists visiting Korea and increase tourism income during the off-season.

A Glimpse into the Heritage and Modernity of Hanbok

In celebration of the New Year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) will present an exhibition of traditional Hanbok together with Korea Craft & Design Foundation (Director KIM Tae Hoon, KCDF) from January 12 (Thurs) to 29 (Sun). Held on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Ara Art Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the exhibition will showcase traditional Hanbok clothing and modern Hanbok uniforms under the titles “Traditional Hanbok for Rites of Life” and “Work in Hanbok,” respectively. This exhibition is expected to offer a tantalizing glimpse into the beauty of traditional Hanbok and practical value of Hanbok workwear.

Korean Art Market Sales Surpass KRW 1 Trillion

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) of the Republic of Korea announced its estimates of the value of the Korean art market in 2022 together with Korea Arts Management Service (President MOON Yeongho, KAMS) Despite the ongoing pandemic and the global economic slowdown last year, the domestic art market reached the highest-ever value of artwork in circulation at KRW 1.0377 trillion, or 37.2% higher than the KRW 756.3 billion from the 2021 factual survey of the art market. By sector, the sales at art fairs and art galleries increased while those at auctions decreased.
