갤러리CNK는 street(graffiti) 작가로 시작한 프랑스 파리 출생의 탱크 TANC_탱크레드 페로 Tancred Perrot(본명)의 개인전을 개최한다.

그는 유럽뿐 아니라 아시아 등 세계적으로 활동하며 과감한 색감과 즉흥적이고 역동적인 터치의 액션페인팅으로 알려져 있다. 그의 작품은 기계 음악의 비트에서 오는 본능적인 움직임과 자연에서 느끼는 원초적 기운에서 영감을 받아 생동감 넘치는 추상 세계를 보여준다. 

예술가 집안에서 자란 그는 부모의 도구로 놀며 판타지 피규어를 칠했고, 청소년기 바스키아(Basquiat)를 통해 감정으로 그리는 법을 알게 되었다. 그래피티와 레터링을 시작한 그는 아티스트 라틀라스(L’Atlas)와 만나 함께 ‘VAO(Visions Abstraites et Optiques)’라는 크루를 결성하고 거리의 대형 포스터와 캔버스를 오가며 예술의 경계를 확장했다. 당시 그에게 그래피티는 자신을 표현하는 배출구였으며 이후 작품에 힘과 리듬, 액션 이상의 감정을 더하는 계기가 되었다.

이번 전시에서는 층마다 조금 다른 액션의 작품들로 배치된다. 전시장 1층에는 그의 대표적 작품 경향이기도 한 퍼포먼스적인 행위의 작품에 그 이미지들을 다시 재배치하여 또 다른 차원의 공간감을 보여주는 신작들로 채워진다. 전시장 2층과 3층 공간에서는 물감을 흘려내리듯 뿌려서 색의 폭포수와 같은 대형작품들과 수업시간 낙서에서 영감을 받아 글을 쓰듯 무의식적인 행위를 반복하며 제작된 그의 또 다른 대표작들, 그리고 그의 액션으로 끝없는 공간감과 깊이를 보여주는 Landscape abstract blue 작품들이 예술작품이 펼쳐지는 파리의 거리를 거니는 듯 설치되어 있다.

- 작업의 본질에 대하여

“최근 카를로스 마레(Carlos Mare)와의 대화를 통해, 나는 내 작업의 핵심이자 모든 시리즈를 관통하는 공통된 흐름이 ‘회화의 적용에 대한 탐구’라는 것을 다시금깨달았다. 나는 매체를 길들이고, 스스로의 방식으로 통제한다. 그것은 철저히 자기주도적인 과정이며, 동시에 우연이 스며드는 여정이다. 예기치 않은 사고 속에서 새로운 가능성을 찾고, 그 결과로 나만의 기술을 만들어내는 것 - 그것이 나를 움직인다.

사람들은 종종 내가 작품의 사상이나 개념보다 기법, 즉 형태에 대해 더 많이 말한다고 지적한다. 그러나 나에게 그 둘은 결코 분리될 수 없다. 위험을 감수하는 행위, 새로운 언어를 탐구하는 과정, 그것이 곧 나의 자유의 공간이다. 동일한 시리즈를 끝없이 반복해야 한다는 제약은 언제나 내게 감금처럼 느껴졌다. 게르하르트 리히터(Gerhard Richter)가 말했듯, ‘우리는 우리가 할 수 있는 것만을 그린다.’ 이 말은 매일 나의 마음속에서 울린다. ‘나는 아직 무엇을 더 할 수 있을까?’ 이번 전시에서는 이러한 나의 매체 실험의 폭넓은 결과를 볼 수 있을 것이다. 매끄럽게 다듬은 회화, 조각하듯 깎은 표면, 긁어낸 질감들. 유화에서 스프레이 페인트에 이르기까지 - 한국에서 처음 선보이는 시도이다.” - TANC

에너지로 가득 찬 탱크의 작품을 통해 관람자들이 긍정의 감각을 깨우는 경험을 해보기를 기대한다.

Gallery CNK hosts a solo exhibition of TANC (Tancred Perrot), born in Paris, France, which started as a street art(graffiti) artist.

He is known for his bold colors, impromptu and dynamic touch action painting, not only in Europe but also in Asia.

Inspired by the instinctive movements that come from the beats of mechanical music and the primal energy felt in nature, his work shows a lively abstract world.

Raised in a family of artists, he played with his parents' tools and painted fantasy figures, and learned how to draw with emotions through his adolescent “Basquiat”. Having started graffiti and lettering, he met artist L'Atlas and formed a crew called "Visions Abstraits et Optiques (VAO)" and expanded the boundaries of art by traveling between large posters and canvases on the streets. For him at the time, graffiti was an outlet for expressing himself, and later became an opportunity to add more emotions than power, rhythm, and action to his work.

In this exhibition, works of different actions are arranged on each floor. On the first floor of the exhibition hall, the images are re-arranged into works of performance, which is also his representative work trend, and new works that show a sense of space to another level. In the spaces on the second and third floors of the exhibition hall, large works such as colored falls by spraying paint as if it were flowing down, his other masterpieces, which were produced by repeating unconscious acts as if writing, and his action, as if walking on the streets of Paris.

- About the nature of the work

"Through a recent conversation with Carlos Mare, I re-awakened that the core of my work and a common flow that runs through all series is the 'exploration of the application of painting'. I tame the medium, and I control it in my own way. It is a thoroughly self-directed process, and at the same time, a journey infused with coincidences. Finding new possibilities in unexpected thinking, and creating my own skills as a result - that moves me.

People frequently point out that I speak more about technique, or form, than about the idea or concept of the work. However, for me, the two can never be separated.

The act of taking risks, the process of exploring new languages, is my space of freedom. The constraints of having to repeat the same series endlessly have always felt like confinement to me. As Gerhard Richter said, 'We only draw what we can do.' These words ring in my mind every day. 'What more can I do yet?' In this exhibition, you will see the extensive results of these media experiments. Smoothly trimmed paintings, sculpted surfaces, and scraped textures. From oil painting to spray paint - this is my first attempt in Korea." - TANC

Through Tanc's work, which is full of energy, we expect viewers to experience awakening a sense of positivity.
