전시소개

노경희 작가가 그린 풍경은 따뜻함과 차가움이 공존한다. 사실로서 전달되는 형상이 현실과 닮아 있지만 묘하게 어디인지 알 수 없는 공간으로 재현이 드러난다. 평범함을 낯설게 평면의 물감층이 보여준 회화의 성격은 자연스레 어필된다. 강렬하지만 여리고 부드럽게 서서히 스미는 것처럼 화면은 차분히 올라가는 색이 선사하는 자연이다. 밑그림 없이 오랜 시간 손의 노동으로 집약된 식물들이 집합된 장소이다. 자신이 추구하는 이상적 이미지와 사진을 비교하며 조율해 나아가는 작업 방식은 재현을 너머 또 다른 것들을 찾으며 작업과정 자체가 중점이 된다. 관찰이 되지만 뭐라 말할 수 없는 느낌이 풍경을 통해 전달된다. 이내 숨어 버리는 성격처럼 식물들은 우연이 만나 어떠한 것이 발생되듯이 암시적이다. 층을 이루지만 생각보다 얇은 평면이며 조금씩 빛을 받는 잎들이 장면마다 발견될 때 신비감이 선사된다. 다양함이 공존하는 숲은 자연 그대로 흐름을 바탕으로 존재의 실체를 탐구한다. 태어나고 자라며 사라져 버리는 것들에 대한 모습을 살며시 보여준다.

섬세하고 세밀한 묘사를 통해 이미 극복되고 또다시 찾아오는 무엇을 표현하듯이 미묘하게 달라지는 서술이 조형으로 드러난다. 가까울수록 물감층이며 거리가 유지되면 형태가 관찰되는 평면의 힘은 작가만의 감각을 통해 손끝에서 완성된다. 생략과 중첩, 조합과 강조를 통해 끊임없이 이행되는 손으로 조율은 있음과 없음의 차이를 드러낸다. 사각의 프레임 안에 선택된 이야기와 그 밖의 이야기를 연결 지어 놓는다. 상상의 여지를 남기는 환영처럼 숲은 보이지 않는 흐름이 가득하다. 얽히고설킨 무수한 가지들이 익숙하지만 때로는 낯설고 고독함이 찾아올 때 그러한 흐름을 생각하며 본인도 투영시켜 넣어본다. 작가의 일상을 다독이면서 색의 의도로서 재현은 은유의 대상이 된다. 거기엔 우리, 사회에 대한 의식이 시각과 맞물려 돌아간다. 관계의 지향점에서 재현을 통해 표현 중이다. 삶이 있는 한 계속 찾아오는 정서처럼 진정 바라는 것들을 확인한다. 사소하고도 중요한 진실들을 평면에 이입한다. 그래서 작가의 그림은 단순히 아름답다 말하기 힘들다. 숲길을 따라가다 보면 무엇이 나올까. 긍정과 부정의 경계를 허물고 진정 조화로운 삶을 살아갈 수 있다면 얼마나 좋은가. 진지한 자세로서 그리는 행위를 통해 바라는 중이다.

The landscapes by Kyounghee NOH embody a coexistence of warmth and coolness. Though the forms presented resemble reality, they subtly recreate spaces that feel both familiar and unknown. The nature of the painting, with its flat layers of paint, feels ordinary yet strange, appealing in its simplicity. The colors, intense but soft, gradually seep into the surface, offering a serene depiction of nature. Her work features a place where plants, meticulously layered by hand over time, converge without an underlying sketch. By comparing and adjusting her ideal image with photographs, her process becomes the focus, as she moves beyond mere representation in search of something else. Through her landscapes, a sense of observation emerges―one that is felt but difficult to articulate. Like the plants themselves, which seem to hide, they meet by chance, hinting at something yet to unfold. Though layered, the surface remains unexpectedly thin, and the leaves, catching the light, offer a sense of mystery with each discovery. The forest, in all its diversity, explores the essence of existence, quietly reflecting the cycles of life―birth, growth, and eventual disappearance.

Her delicate and precise depictions evoke the persistence of something that has been overcome, only to return again, subtly shifting in form. As one approaches, the work reveals layers of paint; from a distance, its shapes come into focus, showcasing the power of the flat plane. Through omission, layering, combination, and emphasis, she continuously transitions between presence and absence. Her selected stories within the frame are connected to those beyond, leaving room for imagination. Like an illusion, the forest is filled with unseen currents. Tangled branches, familiar yet sometimes strange, evoke solitude, and as she contemplates this flow, she projects herself into the scene. Her recreations become metaphors, gently reflecting her daily life, where colors serve as intentional expressions. In this way, her work intersects with broader societal awareness, navigating relationships and expressing them through representation. She conveys deeply felt emotions, which return time and again, revealing the small yet significant truths that permeate the surface. For this reason, her paintings cannot simply be called beautiful. As one walks through the forest path, what will emerge? If the boundaries between positive and negative could be dissolved, how harmonious life might become. Through her sincere approach to painting, she seeks that harmony.
