The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister CHAE Hwi-young, MCST) will host 2025 Youth Culture Week from August 29 (Friday) to 30 (Saturday) at the Seongsu-dong Cultural Complex (Seongdong-gu, Seoul), under the theme “Youth Culture Guide: Four Rooms.”
During his July inauguration speech, Minister CHAE emphasized, “Laying a solid foundation for our youth to grow is the basis for becoming a cultural powerhouse.” He also expressed the commitment of the government to “support the young so that they can fully realize their potential across the fields of culture and the arts.” Embodying the government’s policy to “build the cultural foundation for youth to grow,” Youth Culture Week is a festival and space for examining and empathizing with the lives and realities of young people through culture, as well as a platform offering insight into the perspectives and voices of younger generations.
Diverse programs to culturally inspire and communicate with young people, in collaboration with cultural artists, content creators, and athletes who forged their own unique life paths
This year’s Youth Culture Week is designed to help young people discover their own preferences and lifestyles by moving through the stages of exploration, connection, inspiration, and action, with the aim to ultimately shape their own “personal culture guide.” In particular, four themed rooms—Room of Exploration, Room of Connection, Room of Inspiration, and Room of Action—will be set up in a vibrant hub for young people in Seongsu-dong, allowing the visitors to experience the different stages firsthand. Through these spaces, the youth population will have the chance to gain fresh perspectives on culture as well as better envision their own futures.
The Room of Inspiration, in particular, will feature conversation series, lectures, and performances with speakers and young artists from diverse fields. Highlights include “People who Create Work in New Ways” with Culture & Art for You CEO Lee Ji-hyeon, Frientrip CEO Lim Soo-yeol, and CEO Lee Ho-young of Toonsquare; “My Choices Were Not Always Right, But…” by K-pop choreographer Hyojin Choi; “Until a Writer’s Words Reach the World” by Jo Aran of Minumsa, alongside writers Kim Gyeo-ul and Jung Yong-jun; and “The Stage has Changed, But Preparing Continues” by former Kia Tigers pitcher Yoon Suk-min.
The Room of Exploration, Room of Connection, and Room of Action will also hold a wide range of interactive events and programs. In the Room of Exploration, young visitors can discover their interests and preferences through activities such as Finding Your Cultural Preference or the Culture Keyring Workshop. The Room of Connection will host experience booths from various youth clubs spanning literature, sports, and music. The room will also feature a promotional space for Youth Voice Garden, an online policy idea submission platform for young people operated by MCST Youth Policy Advisors, which aims to connect young people’s ideas to policy proposals. The Room of Action will offer hands-on cultural experiences, such as personal journals, creative handwriting, and sports activities, to encourage young people to take practical action based on what they learn from the exploration and connection stages.
