The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister YU In Chon, MCST), in cooperation with the Korean Cultural Center in Spain (Director SHIN Jaegwang, KCC Spain) and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (President Park Chang-sik), will hold a representative performance for the “2025 Korea Season: Spain” in Madrid, Spain, at 8 p.m. (local time) on July 4.
The MCST is promoting the “Korea Season,” a cultural initiative aimed at countries with high potential for the spread of Korean culture. This initiative features specially curated performances and exhibitions, as well as a wide array of cultural events hosted by related institutions. Following events held in the United Kingdom in 2023 and France in 2024, this year’s Korea Season takes place in Spain—a leading country in Western Europe and one that celebrates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Korea. The program is held under the slogan “Dos culturas, un corazón” (“Two Cultures, One Heart” in English). With this flagship performance event, the MCST plans to actively promote various cultural programs scheduled for the second half of the year as part of the Korea Season, in collaboration with multiple partner organizations.
Premier Cultural Performance Showcases Refined Korean Dance Art Blending Tradition and Modernity
The flagship performance of the “2025 Korea Season: Spain”, titled “Un baile entre culturas” (“A Dance Between Cultures” in English), will take place at the Dance Center Theater of Matadero Madrid, one of the city’s leading multidisciplinary cultural and arts institutions. Directed by Artistic Director KIM Sina, the stage will present a fusion of Korean traditional and contemporary dance arts, including elements of street dance.
Notably, the event will feature a welcome address by world-renowned flamenco choreographer and Artistic Director of the Matadero Dance Center, María Pagés, who will greet the Korean artists. Major Spanish art directors and curators have been invited to the event, providing an opportunity for cultural exchange and dialogue between artists from both countries. In addition, interviews with leading Spanish media outlets will be arranged for the Korean performers.
Building on the recognition gained through consecutive Korea Season events held in the United Kingdom, France, and now Spain, the MCST plans to further attract the interest of the European cultural and arts community in K-culture. The initiative will also support promotional efforts and the expansion of networks for institutions in related cultural industries.
