Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST), YU In Chon, attended the “2024 Korea Stage Festa (KSF)” welcome event at the National Theater of Korea on Oct. 11 (Fri), to show his support for the performance arts professionals and field their opinions on the current state of play in the industry.
MCST launched the “Korea Stage Festa” this year, running from October 4 to November 10, to coincide with major performance arts events such as the “Performing Arts Market in Seoul” (PAMS, Oct. 8–11), the “Seoul Performing Arts Festival” (SPAF, Oct. 3–27), and “Welcome Daehakro” (Oct. 5–Nov. 3). The festa features a wide range of performances across the country, encompassing theater, dance, and classical music. Drawing together a large group of domestic and international venue managers, arts organizations, and corporate sponsors of national arts institutions, the event will also represent a significant networking opportunity.
Minister YU Visited “PAMS”, Cultural Art Center, Theaters, Festivals and Performance Arts-Business Collaboration Sites
Ahead of the welcome event, Minister YU visited the “2024 PAMS” at the National Theater’s Haeoreum Hall. Now in its 20th year, PAMS has been ramping up efforts to support the spread and distribution of outstanding performances throughout Korea, leveraging the KSF to extend its reach. This year, representatives of 48 cultural centers and 30 key domestic and international theaters and festivals are conducting over 700 one-on-one business meetings in an effort to connect arts organizations and venues with a view to offering top-quality performances to regional audiences next year.
The KSF program will see national arts organizations and some of Korea’s most prominent artists staging performances at major venues like the National Theater of Korea, Seoul Arts Center, and Myeongdong Theater. Additionally, eight regional arts organizations will showcase their work on Seoul's premier stages, as part of the “RE:BOUND Project” initiated by the Korea Arts Management Service last year. More information on the KSF can be found on its official website and social media channels.
Minister YU noted, “This year's Korea Stage Festa is more than a showcase of various performances — it’s a vital platform for venues, arts organizations, and corporate sponsors to form meaningful partnerships. Our goal for next year is to expand the Festa by merging it with the PAMS and the SPAF, transforming it into Asia's largest market-driven performing arts festival.”
