Since its inception in 2001, BCWW has steadily grown to become Asia’s largest international broadcast video content market, attracting leading professionals and buyers from both the domestic and international broadcast industries. Last year, BCWW set a record for export contract value at approximately USD 98.09 million (KRW 132.8 billion), driven by the ever-increasing global fascination with K-content.
This year, BCWW offers a range of programs designed for international engagement, reflecting strong interest from both domestic and international companies and buyers. Under the theme “Dynamic Content, Global Stage-BCWW,” the event showcases broadcasting video content, facilitate business connections through Biz Matching, and promote the “OnAir” platform for expanding broadcasting content overseas. It also features the Content Showcase, K-Format Showcase, and various lectures on global broadcasting trends and future prospects. The K-Online Video Service (K-OTT) Promotion Pavilion further highlights K-content and support its international reach.
Enhancing its international profile with the addition of the first France Pavilion and the attendance of major global buyers
This year’s event features a record 412 booths, with 277 renowned video and platform companies from both domestic and international markets. For the first time, France, Japan, and Taiwan each have their own pavilions to support their companies’ participation. The France Pavilion, the first from Western Europe, showcases five prominent companies, including leading French media company Mediawan and film production company Gaumont TV. It also hosts lectures on topics such as “K-Content Consumption Culture in France.” Additionally, officials from major international broadcasting and video companies, including BBC Studios and iQIYI, a major Chinese online video service (OTT), attended the event. The event served as facilitator for dynamic exchanges between domestic and international producers and buyers.
Approximately 180 leading Korean companies have also registered to participate. For the first time, the domestic online video service Coupang Play features its own pavilion to highlight its sports-focused platform strategy. Additionally, major broadcasters, CJ E&M, SLL, Studio Gini, and Raemong Raein actively showcased their flagship content.
“OnAir” event to expand K-content overseas and consultations on the distribution of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST)
The “OnAir” event on August 27 to 28 showcases works supported by the “Broadcast Video Content Production Support Project” jointly led by MCST and KOCCA. The event offers opportunities for business consultations among producers, buyers, and investors, while also highlighting upcoming broadcasting projects and screening various content trailers. On August 27, free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) providers[1], such as Samsung TV Plus and LG Channel[2]—recently emerging as key platforms—are invited to discuss K-content distribution with production companies, helping them explore new distribution channels and expand internationally.
Delving into the latest industry trends with guest speaker actor LEE Jung Jae and the production team of Bounce on Seonjae’s Back
Leading domestic and international experts also shed light on recent developments and trends in the broadcast video content industry. On August 27, the event features the first discussion with actor LEE Jung Jae, renowned for his roles in Squid Game and Star Wars’ The Acolyte. He presented on “The Status of K-Content: The Center of the World.” As a distinguished actor, director, and producer with notable accomplishments, Lee’s insights are expected to inspire and motivate attendees. The following day, August 28, a panel discussion will take place with Bon Factory, the production company behind the hit drama Bounce on Seonjae’s Back. The show, which has achieved top viewership in 133 countries on the U.S.-based OTT service Rakuten Viki, will provide valuable insights into the secrets of its global success.
