Since the launch of the disclosure system, 105 violations have been identified, prompting correction requests, and 6 requests have been made regarding suspected misinformation

On May 8, Minister YU In Chon of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) participated as a member of the one-day monitoring group focusing on probabilistic game items (also known as loot boxes) at Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC, Chairman KIM Kyu Chul) office in Seoul. He was joined by gamers, including former pro gamer HONG Jin Ho and pro gamer MOON Ho Jun.

Since the launch of the disclosing probability information for probabilistic item on March 22, the MCST has detected and addressed 105 violations in 64 games related to nondisclosure of probability information through GRAC’s monitoring efforts, and has issued 6 inquiries concerning alleged false probability information. The one-day monitoring group was organized to publicly share and discuss these efforts, giving gamers a direct insight into the system’s implementation, assessing their satisfaction, and gathering suggestions for further improvements.

Minister YU personally monitored the status of the loot box information disclosure by checking the display of probabilistic item information in online games and documented the findings. Following the monitoring activities, he discussed potential improvements to the loot box information disclosure system with gamers and GRAC staff. Notably, students majoring in video game studies from universities in the Seoul metropolitan area also joined the monitoring group. Representing both current and future members of the video game industry, they emphasized the role of the MCST in supporting and fostering industry growth.

Minister YU stated, “We conveyed as a daily monitoring group to evaluate the implementation of the disclosure of probability information for probabilistic item and to learn from the gamers’ real-world experiences.” He added, “The disclosure of probability information is just the first step in our efforts to rebuild trust between video game companies and users. The MCST is committed to refining this system and advancing gamers’ rights and interests. Furthermore, we are dedicated to supporting the Korean video game industry’s advancement through the Comprehensive Video Game Industry Promotion Plan announced on May 1.”
