“This is the second autumn after the Blue House was returned to the people, and the ‘2023 Blue House Concert’ will provide a unique addition with the captivating autumn scenery of the Blue House and the beautiful melodies of K-classical music,” said Minister PARK Bo Gyoon.

Pianist SUNWOO Yekwon, opera singer Samuel Youn, singer KO Yeong Yeol, and an unrevealed lineup of K-pop stars

K-classical music, gugak, K-pop, and more to be featured

On September 9 (Sat), an orchestral performance that blends K-classical music, gugak, and K-pop will be held. Guided by the baton of HONG Seok Won, the permanent conductor of the Gwangju Symphony Orchestra, and the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, the event will commence with a rendition of Polonaise from Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.” Next, familiar classical pieces such as Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 5” and Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” will grace the program. In particular, a collaboration with pianist SUNWOO Yekwon, the first Korean to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2017, will enrich Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.” There will also be performances infused with our unique fervor, including singer KO Yeong Yeol’s rendition of Buk and surprise performances by K-pop stars, expanding the allure of K-classical music.

On September 10 (Sun), distinguished Korean vocalists such as Samuel Youn, LEE A-Kyeong, YANG Joon Mo, and RIM Sae Kyung will gather to showcase South Korea’s vocal music prowess. Alongside arias from renowned operas such as Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” and Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” charming Korean folk songs such as “Mountain Village” and “Singosan Taryeong” will resonate throughout the Blue House. Furthermore, guided by Professor CHANG Yun Sung from the Seoul National University, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra and the Korean Adopted Children’s Choir (led by KIM Soo Jung) will harmoniously present “Arirang” and “Nella Fantasia.”

YANG Jeong Woong, the director of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games opening ceremony, to direct the concert

Create dynamic stages with music, media art, laser shows, and more

The concert will be directed by YANG Jeong Woong, producer of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games opening ceremony and currently serving as the director for the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games. He recently received acclaim for his modern reinterpretation of the classic play “Faust.” In the concert, YANG aims to merge art, technology, classical music, and K-pop to deliver awe and delight to the audience.

In this performance, along with classical music, sensory and dynamic stages will unfold through media art, laser shows, and more, captivating both eyes and ears. Participating in media art are the artists Vakki, who has held numerous exhibitions at institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and is active in video and interactive media fields, and HAN Yo Han, who has engaged in diverse collaborations, including with Volkswagen.

The concert is free for registered attendees and is subject to being canceled in case of rain due to the outdoor setting. Ticket reservations open at 10:00 a.m. on August 23 (Wed), with a maximum of four tickets per person.** For more information, please visit Interpark’s website.*
