Date Apr 19, 2023

Blue House to host 11 performances from April 21–29, including traditional performances, puppet shows, and dance

Until June, diverse cultural performances combining traditional and modern, Eastern and Western influences to embroider the Blue House, showing its vibrant energy in the arms of the people

From April to June, cultural performances will be held at Cheong Wa Dae’s (Blue House) presidential garden, Nokjiwon, helipad, and small garden, Sojeongwon, where anyone can enjoy and appreciate the green season.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) will showcase a diverse range of cultural performances that combine traditional and modern, Eastern and Western influences, entitled “Where the Feast of Shiny Spring Blooms,” in collaboration with national performing arts groups and public organizations, such as the National Gugak Center, the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Foundation, the National Theater of Korea, the Korea National Opera, and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation. It starts with a traditional performance on April 21 and runs through June with puppet shows and dance performances at the Blue House, welcoming all guests.

Traditional performances, "Four Seasons, Four Colors," to be held in Nokjiwon every Friday and Saturday from April 21 to 29

Starting from April 21 (Fri) to April 29 (Sat), every Friday and Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Folk Music Group from the National Gugak Center will perform the traditional performances "Four Seasons, Four Colors" under the theme of "Conveying the Essence of Korean Folk Music" at Nokjiwon in Blue House. All visitors, both domestic and foreign, are welcome to take in the vibrant and exciting stage, which will feature traditional Korean performances such as Gilnori, Saja Noreum (lion mask dance), Jultagi (tightrope walking), and Pangut (traditional percussion performance), set against the backdrop of Nokjiwon's lush greenery.

On April 22, a small spring concert, "Spring Spring," will be held at the helipad and Sojeongwon of the Blue House

At the helipad and Sojeongwon of the Blue House, a small spring concert, "Spring Spring," will be held on April 22 (Sat) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traditional performing art groups will present small-scale performances in various genres, including instrumental music, vocal music, dance, and traditional performances, interacting with the audience in a total of nine performances.

Various performances combining traditional and modern elements, including a creative puppet show based on traditional Korean puppet theater, a unique band performance that blends Jamaican music with Hwimori Jangdan, a traditional Korean rhythm, and women singers of Pansori with a dynamic dance performance, can be enjoyed on the helipad. At Sojeongwon, unique performances that blend Eastern and Western elements through cello and gayageum duets, traditional percussion and gayageum collaborations, and drum rhythms and guitar riffs applied to a traditional Korean gut (exorcism) will be presented.

MCST expects the number of visitors and their satisfaction level to increase as various cultural programs are fully launched on the grounds of the Blue House, along with the seasonal factor of spring. An average of 15,000 visitors per day visited the Blue House last weekend, showing a significant increase. The number of visitors dropped to around 100,000 in January, the middle of winter, but increased to 150,000 in March. As of April 16, 125,000 people had visited, indicating a continuing increase in visitors.

"Where the Feast of Shiny Spring Blooms" will continue with various performances and experiential events of different genres until June, and detailed schedules can be checked on the Blue House website (reserve.opencheongwadae.kr). The April performances of "Where the Feast of Shiny Spring Blooms" can be enjoyed by any visitors to the Blue House without a separate reservation, and due to the nature of outdoor performances, they may be canceled in the event of rain.
