International Expatriates visit Unesco World Heritage in Korea through Online

The Korean Culture and Information Service (Acting Director Kim Hyun-gi, hereinafter KOCIS) of the Ministry of Culture Sports, and Tourism (Minister Park Yang-woo) will conduct “Exploring Unesco World Heritage of Korea” for international expatriates and this year it will be run through online to respond to Covid-19.

 

The program has been originally operated in a form of site exploration, visiting the place in person and enjoy hands-on experiences, but this year, it was changed into online which has three main pillars such as “Online excurion“, ”Small group tour“ and ”Heritage Education“. All of contents will be provided through You-Tube and uploaded on MCN* platform of the KOCIS.

The first “Online excursion“ will introduce Hansan Ramie Weaving, visiting SeoCheon, to experience weaving which was registered Unesco World Heritage in 2011. The contents of Hansan Ramie Weaving Excursion would include meeting with Intangible Cultural Asset of Korea, Mrs, Bang Yeon-ok, and learned the way of weaving with sense of humor. The video is going to be released on Sep. 4th(Fri). Indeed, Hansan Ramie was showcased at diverse diplomatic stages including 2017 ROK-US Summit and G20 Summit worn by First lady of Korea, Mrs. Kim Jeong-suk, receiving international praies, and also introduced in New York Fashion Week.

 

The online excursion will include visits to Changdeokgung-Palace, Namsadangpae Band and Magoksa Temple·Gongju national museum and each video will be consequtively uploaded.

 

The “small group tour” is consisted of 4 times of tour including visits to Gangwha Dolmen, SuwonHwasung Fortress, Gwangwhamun·Hunminjeongeum and Sosuseowon Confucian Academy. The “heritage education” would also be conducted about three times.

 

A person in charge of the project said “Many international expatriots including international diplomatics and staff of international institutions have embroadened the realm of understanding about the Korean culture, while visiting heritage sites and enjoying hands-on experiences. Online excursion this year will be another opportunity to more viewers of enjoying cultural heritage of Korea since the cultural heritages can be enjoyed on a wider scale through online”.
