Cultural Diversity Week from May 21 - 27 2022

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister PARK Bo Gyoon, MCST) together with the Arts Council Korea (Chair PARK Jong Gwan, ARKO) and 24 regional cultural centers and organizations host “2022 Cultural Diversity Week” from May 21 (Sat) to May 27 (Fri) in Korea.

 

Celebrating its 8th anniversary this year, “Cultural Diversity Week” is held  with the meaning of practicing the value of cultural diversity through understanding and respecting each other's differences. Various events to celebrate and commemorate the cultural diversity week will be held, including international  forums, conferences, and online exhibitions.

 

As for the first meaningful event, MCST and UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Director-General Audrey Azoulay) will host international forum on “The UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expression”. This global conference commemorates and discusses on the tasks in the future taking the opportunity of the Korean version release of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expression in order to protect and advance the cultural diversity at home and abroad.


On May 24 (Tue), the “UNESCO Convention on Diversity of Cultural Expressions” forum will be jointly held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA, Director YUN Bummo), Seoul. In commemoration of the Korean version publication of the global report on the diversity of cultural expressions published by UNESCO this year, consolidated efforts at home and abroad to protect and promote the diversity of cultural expressions and future tasks will be discussed.

 

During the week of celebrating and cultural diversity (May 21 to 27), there is also interesting event held called “Walk 521 footsteps Challenge” to reflect the meaning of cultural diversity by walking more than 521 steps. Anyone can participate in the event by uploading a photo showing the success of the challenge on their social media network (SNS) with a hashtag keywords such as cultural diversity week. The first 1,000 participants will be given a mobile cultural gift certificate as a prize.
