Date Apr 25, 2022
Spring has arrived and so have the blooming flowers that blanket Korean landscapes with a variety of colors this time of year.
Here are some of the gorgeous destinations to enjoy spring from pink cherry to bright yellow canola blossoms.
Gyeonghwa Station Park, located in Jinhae-gu, part of the sprawling coastal metropolis of Changwon in Gyeongsangnam-do Province, is one of the most famous spots to enjoy cherry blossoms. In the park, the train tracks from a line taken out of service in 2006 run under a stunning pink tunnel of blossoms.
The park is adjacent to another famous cherry blossom spot, Yeojwacheon Stream, which is lined for 1.4 kilometers with cherry trees. These two attractions draw visitors from all over Korea every spring.
Seoul has also reopened its popular cherry blossoms venues – Yeouiseoro Street on Yeouido and Seokchon Lake Park in Songpa-gu. Pandemic precautions kept crowds away from the blossoms for the past two and a half years.
The Yeouiseoro Street blossoms stretch for 1.7 kilometers near the National Assembly, and those in Seokchon Lake Park are in a 2.6-km loop trail around the lake.
In Taean-gun County, Chungcheongnam-do Province, about 150 kilometers south of Seoul, the Taean Tulip Festival puts over 100 different varieties on view.
The festival marks its 11th anniversary this year. Held in Korea Flower Park from April 9 to May 9, its tulip-colored landscape designs offer visitors a vibrant spring sensation.
Jejudo Island is known for bright yellow canola flowers in spring.
One of the most famous viewing spots is the Noksan-ro Canola Flower Road in Gasi-ri in the northeastern part of the island. Broad swaths of canola flowers line both sides of a wonderful 10-km course where you can enjoy picturesque scenery while driving.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport named the highway one of the 100 most beautiful roads in Korea in 2007.
Seoubong, located in the eastern part of Jeju, near Hamdeok Beach, is another famous spot. The view from its peak offers a breathtaking panorama of a field of canola flowers against the backdrop of the blue sea. Visitors can also walk on a path that runs directly between the field and the sea.
