The Digital Transformation Expo Korea 2021 will kick off on November 25 for a four-day run with the aim of showcasing Korea’s progress on and vision for digital transformation.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Gyeonggi-do provincial and Goyang municipal governments, the expo will be the first to promote Korea’s path to digitalization during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event can be seen as part of the Digital New Deal, a pillar of President Moon Jae-in’s signature Korean New Deal designed to revive the economy following the damage caused by the pandemic.

It will take place at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do Province.

KINTEX is a co-organizer of the expo along with the National IT Industry Promotion Agency and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). Besides these two government-affiliated organizations, KINTEX is working with broadcaster MBC and exhibition organizer Messe Esang.

“The Digital Transformation Expo Korea 2021 is among this year’s most-anticipated events showing how digital technology is rapidly reshaping our society,” an event official said.

Korea’s major conglomerates, mid-market companies, startups and research institutes from both the private and public sectors will share their achievements under the themes of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, cloud computing, 5G-connected Internet of Things (IoT), the metaverse and so-called global mobile vision.

More than 150 buyers from abroad are expected to take part, and KOTRA will provide trade consulting services. In addition, a prospective Korean venture capital company will be on hand for investment consulting services.

The participating companies are expected to have an opportunity to find new business avenues and lucrative markets worldwide.

As part of the expo, the Global AI Summit 2021 will take place on the opening day with internationally renowned scholars and business executives in attendance. Through lectures and panel discussions, they will talk about what they see as “destructive innovation” on Korea’s path to complete the Digital New Deal and the anticipated related changes.

Introduced in July 2020, the Green New Deal is a large-scale project designed to support the digitalization of economic and social infrastructure across the board through massive financial investment and to facilitate data and AI utilization.
